Natalie Blakemore is advancing her dream of ensuring all children with disabilities, like her son Zachary, connect with kids of all abilities through play.
On June 25, Davis Street Land Co. donated $10,0000 to Unlimited Play, the nonprofit organization established by Blakemore that created Zachary’s Playground in Lake Saint Louis. The playground, off Orf Road in Hawk Ridge Park, is designed to eliminate barriers to children who have developmental or physical disabilities. Davis Street’s donation will be used to build a fence that will expand spatial and sensory needs for children with autism.

Sewer rates could more than double in O’Fallon to help fund a $10 million overhaul of the city’s outdated wastewater system.
According to the City Council’s projections, the city would add gradual price increases over the next five years, taking the current sewer rate of $12.50 to $26.75 by 2013.

I drove past Highland Park today. It’s true, there has been work done on that project. Two buildings are completely shelled, and the rest have – at least – the exterior walls up. Not all of them have roof trusses or stucco panels, but they have the Tyvek® wrap and floor decking.
So, I guess I’ll have to go back on the 4th and get some new pictures.
Maybe I’ll stop by a couple of the other projects to see if there have been any improvements

There’s a new design for Missouri’s license plates. It was just released in the middle of June. I know because I have a set on my car.

State representative plans discussion events in O’Fallon
Ryan Prewitt photo — State Rep. Cynthia Davis, R-19th District, explains part of the U.S. Constitution to Joyce Martin of O’Fallon after giving her a free copy of the document. Davis will host two more discussion meetings with residents this month.

State Rep. Cynthia Davis, R-19th District, of O’Fallon will host two more discussion meetings with residents despite a small turnout for the first.
Only two residents attended Tuesday night’s meeting at Library Express at WingHaven.
Davis said the low turnout was due to a lack of promotion on her part, and expects greater resident participation for the next two events.”People are longing for an elected official to listen to them and take into account their concern,” Davis said.
Davis is running for re-election in November, but she said the meet-and-greet series has nothing to do with her campaign.
“I did this last summer, also,” she said.
Davis said she is planning to discuss her accomplishments of the last House session and will provide free refreshments during both events.
Davis said she is optimistic that, once word gets out about the discussion meetings, people will want to talk to their state representative.
“It’s going to build; the momentum is just beginning,” Davis said.
The events are scheduled as follows:
- 7:30-8:30 p.m. July 1 at McDonald’s, 2915 Highway K.
- 7:30-8:30 p.m. July 8 at Heaven Scent Bakery, 1133 Bryan Road.

Cavanagh agrees to let O’Fallon’s people go
At the 26 June 2008 O’Fallon City Council meeting, co-founder of Highland Development and Smails, LLC, John Cavanagh III made a startling concession. If anyone that has already put down earnest money for a condominium in Highland Terrace wants out, they will get a full refund.
Under questioning by Mayor Donna Morrow, Cavanagh stated that it is not his company’s practice to refund earnest money if a potential buyer backs out of a contract.

In case it slipped past your perusal of the City Council agenda:
The City of O’Fallon had a bill on the 26 June 2008 agenda that would have forced pre-payment for cash transactions at all purveyors of self-service fuels.

Sorry to keep harping
Yes, it’s true. More information is on the way concerning Highland Development/Highland Homes proposed redevelopment of the old King Arthur’s Court site into condominiums.
The problem here is that Highland (Hi John and Bob! — Can I call you Bob?) wants someone to pay for their site clean up. Just do a search for Highland Homes on the blog, you’ll see.

On Memorial Day, O’Fallon resident Nancy Duncan and her 7-year-old great-granddaughter took their Yorkie, Daisy, over to visit their neighbor, Lisa Powell.

I can’t avoid it any longer. I have to admit that they’re just … Gone. When I upgraded to Linux from Windows, I had some serious learning to do. I am getting the hang of Linux, BUT … I lost all of my Highland Homes files. All the pdfs, all the spreadsheets, all of the DBA information, all the pictures (except for the ones that are on flickr.com).
